Julie Jacques confirms that although the Brandling Village walks on 8 May and 2 June are now both full up, there are still places available on the Brandling Village Guided Walk on 23 May, and on the High West Jesmond Walk (Temperance, Titty Bottles and Trains) on 29 May. If you would like to join any of these walks, please email juliemjacques@btinternet as soon as possible. Do not just turn up on the day!

Dark Sky Voices

Dark Sky Voices are a close harmony group, directed by Fiona Lander, who will be performing a selection of “a capella”, accompanied works and popular songs, as part of the 2024 Jesmond Community Festival. The concert “Close Harmony in May” will be held in aid of Jesmond Pool and St Oswald’s Hospice at Jesmond  United Reformed Church on Saturday 18 May, starting at 7:30 pm. The group will be supported by Bonnie Brinn (Soprano), Les Hodgson (Tenor) and Len Young (Piano). Tickets (£10) are now available in Jesmond Pool and from Jesmond Library.

If you have children (or grandchildren) with an interest in music, this festival event, right in the middle of half-term week, is for you! Saint-Saens “Carnival of the Animals” featuring the Scott Brothers Duo, from Manchester, with big screen video projection in the nave. Wednesday 29 May at 2:00pm in St George’s Church. Jonathan Scott will be playing the magnificent St George’s organ, with animations by Tom Scott. Children under 16 Free, Adults £10:00. Booking Essential. An American Concert

An American Concert

Les Hodgson and friends have announced the programme for their “American Concert” starting at 7:3pm on Friday 10 May in Jesmond United Reformed Church. The concert aims to raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice and Jesmond Pool and Gym.

The evening will showcase American music from the 19th and 20th centuries, performed by Jane Jackson (Soprano), Rita Fallon (Mezzo Soprano), Les Hodgson (Tenor), Kevyn Gill (Bass), John McCauley (Bass) and Len Young (Piano). Tickets (£10) are now available at Jesmond Pool, Jesmond Library, or at the door. Refreshments available.

The crowded programme will include Kevyn singing Ol’ Man River and Some Enchanted Evening, Len playing the Maple Leaf Rag, Rita singing Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and Climb Every Mountain, Les singing Younger than Springtime and I Got Rhythm and Jane singing Summertime. An evening packed with memories!
