New Look for Library Windows

Check out the big windows in Jesmond Library! Over the next few days different Jesmond organisations will be decorating them with special festival-themed displays, to celebrate this year’s Jesmond Community Festival. Here is the display prepared by Jesmond Community Orchard, with the help of children at West Jesmond School!

One Minute a Day!

One Minute a Day!

Craig from Jesmond Pool and Gym announces details of “Craig’s Fitness Challenge”.

Every day during this year’s Jesmond Community Festival you will find on Jesmond Pool’s Facebook page a new routine posted by Craig. Can you complete them all?

Says Craig: “For Jesmond festival this year I’ll be setting a challenge for all of May. All it consists of is “One minute a day, every day in May”, and will be posted on the pool’s Facebook page, getting harder every week.”

“If you would like to join in and win a free month’s membership then all you have to do is film yourself doing Craig’s challenge that day, then send it to the Pool on our message page. You will be added in to our draw, the more challenges you do, the more times you will be added in to our draw.
Good luck guys!”

Jesmond Old Cemetery

The Friends of Jesmond Old Cemetery have confirmed the arrangements for their popular Heritage Tours, which will this year take place on 15 and 16 May. On each day there will be five mini tours, each with its own guide, making a total of only 50 attendees over the two days. So reserve your place, by emailing friendsofjesmondoldcemetery@gmail.com as soon as possible. The two hour tours will start at mid day on each day.

Reid Park Road – Circular Walk

Reid Park Road – Circular Walk

All places on John North’s walk on 7 May are now booked, but John has kindly agreed to repeat the walks on Wednesday 12 May and Friday 28 May. If you like the sound of that event, you may also be interested in the Heritage Tours of Jesmond Old Cemetery on 15 and 16 May, or the guided tours of St Andrew’s Cemetery and Jesmond Community Orchard on 22 and 23 May. And of course, you don’t need an “in person” guide to walk the Teddy Bear Trail!

Teddy Bear Trail

Teddy Bear Trail

The Teddy Bear Trail is organised by the Friends of Jesmond Library. The 2021 trail will run from 22 May to 6 June, so as to include half term, and all the teddies will have a theme related to a children’s story, film or TV programme.

This year there will be two trail routes, both starting from Jesmond Library. Route One includes the North side of Jesmond Dene Road (Beatty Avenue etc), where there were lots of keen hosts for teddy bears. There are around 25 teddies on this Trail – as it finishes at the bottom of Keyes Gardens many trailers may well wish to wander into the Dene for an ice cream or picnic!

Route Two is a bit longer, covering a number of central Jesmond streets, bringing the total number of bears to around 70, and making the event our biggest yet! To minimise the chances of COVID problems there will be no paper forms, but the instructions, maps etc will be available on Facebook, and displayed in the library windows.

Watch out for further information! In the meantime, if you have any queries, email joanaarvold@icloud.com  or telephone 07747 359607.
