The Northumberland Orchestral Society have announced details of their Spring concert, which will be an early highlight of the 2024 Jesmond Community Festival. The concert will be at the United Reformed Church on Saturday 4 May, beginning at 7:30pm.
The Society’s programme will include the Gaelic Suite by Amy Beach, and the Brahms double concerto, with. Soloist Kyra Humphreys, violin, and her son Seth cello, both Jesmond residents. Kyra is co-leader of the Royal Northern Sinfonia. Seth recently graduated from Clare College, Cambridge, and was principal cello in the Cambridge University Sinfonia and Opera Orchestra. Seth begins a Master’s degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama this September.

The North Jesmond, South Jesmond, and Dene and South Gosforth Ward Committees of the City Council have all approved grants towards the publicity for the 2024 Jesmond Community Festival. So all speed ahead with completing the Festival Programme!

We are beginning to get details of the first few events being planned for the 2024 Jesmond Community Festival. Next year’s Tour de Jesmond is likely to take place on Sunday 5 May. For more information contact tony.waterston@ncl.ac.uk . Jesmond Choral Group are to give a concert performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Patience”, while the North East Recorder Orchestra and the Northumberland Orchestral Society will also be back. Anyone beginning to plan an event may like to know that next year’s Early May Bank Holiday is to be on 6 May, Spring Bank Holiday is 27 May, and 27 – 31 May is likely to be Half Term Week at West Jesmond School. Easter is comparatively early next year (Easter Sunday will be 31 March) and West Jesmond’s summer term is likely to start on 15 April.
