At a recent meeting of Jesmond Community Forum it was decided that the theme for our 2022 Jesmond Photographic Competition will be “Jubilant Jesmond”. The closing date for entries won’t be until September, but there is a lot to be said for starting to take photographs on this theme as soon as you can!
Help to draw attention to Jesmond’s glorious gardens. This year’s categories in the Glorious Gardens Awards will be Large Gardens, Small Gardens, Wildlife Friendly Gardens and Edible Gardens. The closing date for entries will be Sunday 22 May 2022 and the winners will be announced in Jesmond Library on 27 May. For more information email greeningjesmond@gmail.com .
St George’s Church is planning a special celebration event on 4 June, as part of the 2022 Jesmond Community Festival. The Big Friendly Jubilee Gathering will be held on the Green in front of the Church. Any community group wishing to take part should contact Joan Grenfell on grenfelljoan@yahoo.com .
All community organisations operating in Jesmond are asked to come up with ideas for events to form part of a proposed 2022 Jesmond Community Festival. First ideas were discussed at a meeting of Jesmond Community Forum held on 16 November 2021 and all suggestions have been requested to be submitted to info@jesmondfestival.org.uk by the end of January 2022. All proposed events will be shown on this website, as they come forward. The festival is likely to take place between Saturday 7 May and Sunday 5 June 2022.
The results of the 2021 Jesmond Photographic Competition have been announced. The winner was Faheem Aslam, with his long exposure shot of the Jesmond Dene Waterfall, while the Runner Up was Finn Willingham with “Highbury Halo”, a photograph of a rainbow over Highbury. Other photographers whose images will appear in our 2022 Calendar are Michael Wild, Fiona Clarke, Nick Lambert, David Whinham, David Pretswell, B Fitchett and Jill Arthey. The judges of the competition were Bobbie Harding, David Houpt, Catherine Walker and Felicity Mendelson.
