If this fabulous weather holds out, get the children and grandchildren along to Exhibition Park on Sunday 4 May, between 11 am and 3 pm, when the “Festival Special” model train rides will be operating. If you haven’t beern before, the track is hidden away behind the Wylam Brewery, at the Northern Boundary of the park.
One of the first events in this year’s Jesmond Community Festival will be a free crafts session for children and adults in Holy Trinity Church, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The session will be led by Yve Ngoo, who will have a supply of materials.
There will also be tea and coffee available, and a supply of festival programmes, so that you can plan which events to attend over the rest of May!
All places on the Busy Cottages and Millfield House walk in Jesmond Dene are now taken. But there are places left on some of the other Guided Walks, such on the Town Moor and in St Andrew’s Cemetery. So hurry up and book your place!

Join Merryn Glover as she shares the different points of view in her two novels – A House called Askival – and – Of Stone and Sky – and her non-fiction book – The Hidden Fires: A Cairngorms Journey with Nan Shepherd. £10 entry, including wine and nibbles. Merryn’s talk will include images from the settings of her work across India, Nepal and Scotland, as well as an opportunity to ask questions, purchase signed books and chat with other book enthusiasts. DJ Scott Armstrong of Nova Radio North East will be playing a set at one of Jesmond’s more unusual venues when he visits Jesmond Pool for a Festival Chill Out Session between 8:30 and 10:00 pm on Friday 23 May. Mood lighting, a sauna, a gentle swim, and a live DJ set – what more could you want?
