Have you seen the programme for this year’s Jesmond Festival yet?
Between 7 May and 5 June there are over 70 events taking place in venues all over Jesmond, with events for families and children, older people, and everything in between. Musical highlights include a folk concert in Jesmond Library, the Brahms German Requiem in the URC and performances by children from West Jesmond School in the Library. There is Karaoke in the British Legion, the famous Teddy Bear Trail, this year with a Reet Royal theme, Stream Dipping in High West Jesmond, Steam Train Rides in Exhibition Park, a kids DJ Party in the Pool, and several alternative Guided Walks, in different parts of Jesmond. Topics for talks include Traffic Free Jesmond and ShelterBox, there is a new film about A Year in Jesmond Community Orchard, and two Fairs on St George’s Green. And lots more!
You can pick up a printed programme in Jesmond Library or Jesmond Pool.

You will recall that last year the big windows at Jesmond Library were decorated during the festival, with displays mounted by a number of different local organisations.
The library has decided that the same exercise is to be repeated this year. Once again Sarah Breakey will be coordinating the exercise, including providing cardboard backings of the correct size. Groups wishing to take part should contact her on sbreakey57@gmail.com or 0191 281 9625 as soon as possible.

At a recent meeting of Jesmond Community Forum it was decided that the theme for our 2022 Jesmond Photographic Competition will be “Jubilant Jesmond”. The closing date for entries won’t be until September, but there is a lot to be said for starting to take photographs on this theme as soon as you can!
